On Monday 9th February, selected Year 9 pupils took part in specialist training to prepare them for their role as Attendance Peer Mentors, where they will support selected Year 7 pupils as part of our Buddy System programme.
The training focused on key mentoring skills including communication, understanding different viewpoints, body language, empathy, self-esteem and the importance of confidentiality. Pupils also explored safeguarding responsibilities and how to act as positive role models within our school community.
Through weekly mentoring sessions, our Year 9 mentors will help Year 7 pupils to build confidence, set attendance goals and feel more connected to school life. The programme not only supports improved attendance, but also develops leadership skills, responsibility and personal growth for our mentors.
We are proud of our Year 9 pupils for embracing this opportunity to lead by example and contribute to a caring, supportive school culture.
