Year 9 Guided Options Launch

On Monday 9th February, our Year 9 pupils marked the start of their Guided Options journey with a launch assembly designed to support informed decision-making.

The assembly explored what GCSE options are, why they are chosen in Year 9 and how these decisions can shape future pathways. Pupils were encouraged to think carefully about their strengths, interests and long-term ambitions, including Post-16 routes and university aspirations. The importance of keeping future choices open was highlighted, alongside information about compulsory subjects, facilitating subjects and the differences between GCSEs and vocational qualifications.

As emphasised in the assembly, these are important decisions — pupils will study their chosen subjects for two years, so careful consideration is key.

The next stage of the process is our Year 9 Guided Options Evening on Thursday 12th February, where families will have the opportunity to gather further information, speak to subject leaders and ask questions.

This will be followed by Research Week (23rd–27th February), giving pupils dedicated time to explore subjects in greater depth and reflect on the choices that are right for them.

We look forward to supporting our Year 9 pupils as they take this exciting and important next step in their academic journey.
