Humanutopia

On Wednesday 20th November, Year 8 took part in a powerful all day workshop with our colleagues from Humanutopia titled 'Who am I?". The day covered vital topics for our pupils such as identifying their own barriers to success, seeing themselves in a totally different light and overcoming the barriers and then a consideration of what their future may look like, including what changes they need to make.

The day was split into 3 separate sessions:

Session 1 was the Comfort Zone in which the students reflected on their past helping them reflect on how they became the person they are. This session was a roller coaster as students were roaring with laughter one minute and deep in reflection the next minute.

Session 2 was the Stretch Zone where the students considered how the present could be so different if each person behaved differently. Our pupils found it highly engaging as they interacted with others outside their normal friendship group.

Session 3 was the Panic Zone during which our pupils imagined who they could be in the future, discussing dreams, hopes, goals and ambitions. The day was concluded when every student identified and committed to making three positive changes to improve their future.

in-to-win

In to Win

At Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School, excellent attendance for all pupils is one of our top priorities.  We are keen to encourage all pupils to take advantage of every teaching and learning opportunity available to them at school and in order for that to happen it is important they are here. To continue to promote and reward outstanding attendance, we are running an attendance incentive in November.

In to Win

Between the 25th and 29th of November, pupils in Years 7-11 who attend every day will have the chance to win an Amazon voucher on Friday 29th of November - just in time for Black Friday. The winners will be drawn at random from all those with 100% attendance for the week. There will be four vouchers available to win per year group.

Act of Remembrance 2024

Armistice Day, or Remembrance Day as it is more commonly known, marks the exact day World War 1 ended in 1918. Every year the nation holds a two-minute silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month as we remember those who have given their lives in any conflict to protect our nations interests. Today, the whole school took part in an act of remembrance outside on the playground; the conduct of our pupils was exemplary all throughout.

Trust Remembrance Service

Our pupils and staff have been considering remembrance. Each year, as a country, we join to consider the sacrifices and efforts made to protect our British values. Throughout conflicts over the years, the men and women who have given their all to ensure our individual liberty and freedom of speech remain intact.

On Friday 8th November, Matrix Academy Trust held their annual trust wide remembrance service. A small contingent of cadets and staff from each of schools joined together, this year hosted by Wednesfield Academy. Whilst any parade is a spectacle of respect to behold, this one particularly hit home the unity that encompasses Great Britain. All our schools joining together, each represented by model student leaders to show their respects.

As the parade began our CCF commanders were joined by Lord-Lieutenant Derrick Anderson CBE, as the sovereign’s representative for the West Midlands, for the event. Lord-Lieutenant Anderson joined our CEO, Headteachers along with other dignitaries to view the exemplary collection of cadets who had turned out with immaculate uniform.

Following an inspection, the traditional poem ‘In Flanders Field’ was read out as Sixth Form pupils from Wednesfield underlined that ‘We will remember them!’. With the last post playing the attendees, school and Trust observed a two-minute silence to pay respect to all of those who have sacrificed for us.

We are so proud of our cadets, and everyone involved for emphasising the importance of remembrance.

STEM Discovery Day

On Wednesday this week, we sent 15 of our year 8 pupils to experience a STEM Maths and Science Discovery Day at The University of Birmingham. During the day, Year 8 students discovered different areas of Sicence, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) through interactive workshops aimed to inspire, and give them the opportunity to experience life at university. The experience was designed to expose year 8 students to STEM outside of the school environment and to spark excitement around the different subjects and university life.
