On Tuesday 10th February, Ms O’Connor and a group of Sixth Form historians took part in a deeply moving visit to Auschwitz concentration camp as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project.
Following an early departure from Birmingham Airport, pupils toured Auschwitz I with an expert guide, viewing the preserved barracks and powerful exhibitions. They also heard from Rebbetzin Eva Chapper, who shared a moving reflection on the importance of remembrance.
At Auschwitz II-Birkenau, students walked the vast grounds, seeing the railway tracks and remains of the gas chambers and crematoria, gaining a stark understanding of the scale of the Holocaust.
The visit concluded with a memorial service led by our pupils. Throughout the long and emotional day, students conducted themselves with maturity, respect and compassion, representing the school impeccably.
